An old pastor was dying. He sent for a lawyer and businessman, both members of his flock. . When they arrived, they were quickly escorted to his bedroom. Upon entering, the preacher motioned for them to sit on opposite sides of the bed. .. When they sat, he smiled happily and stared at the ceiling. .. For a long time, no one spoke. Both the lawyer and businessman were flattered that the pastor had sent for them but they were also puzzled because he had never given any indication that he liked them. .. Finally, the businessman said “Pastor, we are flattered that you sent for us, but your silence is making us wonder why you did it.” .. The old pastor, struggling to speak, said “Our Lord Jesus died between two thieves and I also want to go the same way.”
