Right By Your Side When depression left you broken hearted And confidence had soared out of your grasp When your tears had fallen to the ground And you needed guidance and a fix-up fast When your friends you thought you had abandoned you The nights you’d return from work and cry alone Clutching that pillow you’d become so attached to Drowning your screams and fading out when you’d moan When you threw in the towel and gave up I saw you through the moments so dull and dark Through places that seemed as if there was no end And the dark times where there was a new shade of black I’d offer you the shoulder, superior to the pillow Whisper in your ear for the comfort you longed to seek Fill you from your feet upwards with hope Be the reminder that your future doesn’t have to be bleak As you were hitting the lows instead of the highs I was behind you for that extra nudge Lifting up your spirits from the ground Injecting you with that additional bit of courage Seeing you grow in yourself as a person Gave me joy watching you grin like a Cheshire Cat Standing back from the crowd applauding you Remaining silent, just tipping the top of my hat You glance at me through the crowd as you well up And you give me that smile that you couldn’t hide That moment, money couldn’t buy how you felt Knowing that I’d always remain right by your side
