An old saying that once had some popular notoriety is this, behind - TopicsExpress

An old saying that once had some popular notoriety is this, behind every successful man is a good woman. I dont know how true that statement is (or was) but I suspect its rare that a successful person always comes up with his/her own ideas. Remember the movie Pirates of Silicon Valley where it appeared that Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates stole some of Apple founder Steve Jobs ideas. Remember the final scene where Gates turned his back and walked away from Jobs. I thought we had a deal,Jobs called after him. Without turning around Gates said, Read the fine print, Steve. You will have to use your imagination when comparing the recent successes of the Toastmasters club at Meinders School of Business with what I just wrote about Bill Gates and Steve Jobs. My point is this: sometime (maybe a majority of the time) the origination of the idea gets lost in the successes of the person or organization that promotes and develops the idea. David Walkup (who began his Toastmasters experience with Early Risers before joining the Meinders School of Business Club) is best known for giving great speech evaluations and mentoring members, but he has other abilities and interests, as well. The Meinders School of Business Club was struggling with low membership when David Walkup came up with the idea to create club labels and paste them on extra copies of the Toastmaster Magazine and other marketing materials then distribute them around the school and other public locations. Club VPM Autumn Harting made it happen and club President Su Cheen Theng helped to get the club recognition from Toastmasters International with the clubs photo and article in the Toastmasters magazine. Sure, Su Cheen and Autumn are to be commended for what they did. But, without the original idea and selling the idea to the club, the successes that followed might not have happened. It takes all three to make it work. A team working together is what turns every idea into a successful endeavor. David Walkup joined Toastmasters on April 1, 2006. The realization that he is known for great evaluations and mentoring, also CVPE blends well with achieving the Advanced Leadership Bronze on the leadership side of Toastmasters. David Walkup is my April 14, 2014 Toastmaster of the Day.
