An old timer fell down a disused well. His buddy couldn’t get him out so started filling the well with soil. The old timer panicked & felt betrayed until he heard his buddy yell: “Shake it off, Jake, and step up!” He shook off the dirt and stood on it. Soon, every time dirt struck him he’d join his buddy in yelling “Shake it off & step up!”, thereby making steeping stones out of everything that was thrown at him until he was able to reach the top. Corny, perhaps...but a glimmer of truth there nervertheless.
