An open letter to Robin Williams.... ----------------- Dear Peter, When I was young I loved watching you fly. I watched you fly and fight and crow, and you seemed really happy. Your smile almost took over your face. You never looked like you were faking it. So many people do. But Peter, as I watch all these news clips on your life, all I can think about is what I wish I could have said to you. You went to Juilliard and won an Oscar, which means we probably wouldnt have crossed paths. But I work in Hollywood, and I love movies, and I used to think theyd make me fly. Whenever someone passes away in Hollywood, everyone rushes to the balcony, me included. But otherwise, all the sheltered kids like me dont really think about dying. Worse yet, we start to think only the chronically depressed are in need of hope. So Peter, I dont know what you found your hope in. But for 21 years of my life, I found my hope in people and movies. Honestly Peter, sometimes Im too timid to tell people about hope. I dont want to offend people. I dont want to make them feel weird. But something about your pain makes me feel like you wouldnt have been offended. You wouldnt have been weirded out by me saying that I needed to be saved. So, what would I have said? I would have said that Jesus Christ can do what all the fan letters, oscars, and rehab centers in the world cannot. He can actually, permanently set you free. Peter Pan, I will always remember watching you fly, but Ill also remember how they used wires. And how your name is Robin, just another man like me, who needed more than movies. Love, Brian
