An open letter to all my fellow actors, artists and Sony Pictures - TopicsExpress

An open letter to all my fellow actors, artists and Sony Pictures regarding the North Korean cyber attack on freedom: I acknowledge that propaganda and corporate thought control exists in all cultures and governments. Freedom of expression, however is the foundation which separates Western society from the brutal regimes around the globe. In social revolution and cultural upheaval, art has often played a significant role in giving birth to social change. Uncle Tom’s Cabin so enraged Northern Americans to the oppression of African slaves in the American South it began the debate regarding slavery. Citizen Kane was a commentary on the overreaching power of William Randolph Hearst and his monopoly of the American press. The Great Dictator was Charlie Chaplin’s protest film against Adolf Hitler without a shred of subtlety. Even slapstick comedies such as the The 3 Stooges offered parodies of the Nazi regime. Though it is rumored that Sony Pictures refused to spend for a security upgrade due to financial concerns, they now have been made a scapegoat with the theater chains refusing to play The Interview. I applaud Sony Pictures bravado in producing a film, no matter how sophomoric though it may be, as a contemporary commentary on an archaic, dictatorial regime. It is unimaginable in 2014 that a government still exists which indoctrinates their children in the cult of personality. Freedoms are not lost overnight. The old adage about a frog being boiled slowly will allow itself to be boiled alive before jumping out of the pot applies to humanity. Freedoms removed slowly one at a time give birth to dictatorships and totalitarian governments. Sony Pictures: Please release The Interview, freely over the Internet via iTunes. Request a minimum $5.00 donation for download. I believe there would be an overwhelming outpouring of support and revenue paid to Sony by those in support of freedom which would far outweigh any insurance reimbursement it might anticipate. It might in fact obtain a record box office. Please SHARE if you agree. Scott King
