An open letter to my Democratic friends in Olympia, I hope you - TopicsExpress

An open letter to my Democratic friends in Olympia, I hope you consider the following anecdote as you enter another week of extended session… Tonight I ran into Safeway and bumped into someone whom I would consider a community activist, spends a lot of time in Olympia and I’ve always thought of as non-partisan (and remember her being an “I” in votebuilder). When I asked her take on the mess in Olympia, she went on a tirade about how the Democrats have screwed things up in this state. I nodded to avoid an argument (my mission was whole milk for the boy), grabbed my two items and headed out the door. I scratched my head on the drive home and wondered how someone I’ve never heard discuss party politics lay blame on the Democrats (when it’s clearly the Republicans, right??). Perhaps somewhere, somehow the Democrats have lost the PR battle. Perhaps the Democrats need to boot out their leadership. Perhaps the party machine needs to stop pushing candidates that please their corporate overlords and connect better with the people. Perhaps the Seattle liberals have too much power. I’m usually knee deep in everything that’s going on, but have made a concerted effort to stay away this year (as much as possible) and do not know everything that is going on. I don’t know why one person places all the blame on the Democrats, and maybe had I gone down a different aisle at Safeway I wouldn’t be typing this post. But I hope someone notices or ’14 is going to be a rude awakening. Anyway as you’re sitting around doing nothing again this week, I hope you think about this. I don’t want the direction of our state to go down a certain road because your PR machine, your leadership, your candidates, or your machine has dropped the ball. And by the way, Happy Father’s Day.
