An open letter to my work HR rep regarding the state of lunch - TopicsExpress

An open letter to my work HR rep regarding the state of lunch affairs here in the building. Enjoy: I’m about to vent- in a completely work appropriate and professional way of course. We have a lunch thief. Not just lunch was eaten. My bag had a paring knife I use for fruit and a fork as well as the dish it was in. I placed it in the left refrigerator in the small lunch room Tuesday. I didn’t eat it that day, and didn’t go in yesterday bc I took choice time. It was NOT in there over a weekend. I also had a bag of bagels and some cream cheese. Not sure if those were a part of the same snatch and eat, but you never know as they are also missing. So- back to it… we have a lunch thief. For your reference, there was no way that someone could have mistakenly eaten homemade beef stew with a corn muffin and butter. The knife was inside the Rubbermaid as well, I would assume people don’t usually do that. On the back side of this and as a result, I had to visit the cafeteria downstairs. Their prices have been going steadily up, their quality and timeliness has been going steadily down the drain. Today, there was one grill cook and a line out the door. The fried area was open but overgrazed. (BTW- the chicken strips are now the non battered kind you get from a cheapo store, for little kids, and they’re small, and they cost the same.) The sandwich area was closed, “sorry for the inconvenience”, as was the Mexican area. The ridiculously expensive healthy option salad bar was, of course, open. Have you eaten a decent salad or even gotten a side from that bar that has to be weighed? I ask because I made myself a sandwich and when weighed it topped out at about $7. Two pieces of bread, a small serving of turkey, mustard, mayo, a pickle, and swiss cheese. And I made it myself. I tell you this, not because you have any direct method of handling the issues, but because it seems like a lot of us are unhappy. We have other options (like bringing our lunch) but don’t have enough time to leave and get something. And- now that there is a lunch thief… That doesn’t seem like an option either. Are we to be reduced to canned soups and ramen that we can put safely away in our desks? What about healthier options that have to be refrigerated? What about economical lunch options downstairs? It does seem to myself and others that they are keeping open the salad bar and raising the prices and eliminating the other cheaper options. I wouldn’t be surprised if when those other “understaffed” areas return that the prices haven’t gone up. This is my rant. The one issue I know you can have some control over. The other… perhaps we need to stage an “eat in”. As in, we eat in our departments and none of us on the company level go down there for a week. I’d be happy to write them a strongly worded letter and include signatures. Thanks for reading,
