An opinion piece written by me good friend, Derrick Mac. My thoughts and points: 1. I didnt bring race into this situation until I, too, looked on the tube and saw the gaggle of white women sitting in the chair, knowing there were others who were allegedly (probably) raped by Bill. Perhaps they chose not to comment publicly right now. In which case, someone should have said maybe these 5 white women alone isnt a good idea right now. 2. I must disagree with us extending our hand to those like Bill. His politics have suggested hes not part of my tribe, and thats the way Ill leave it. Like I told the Daytona News Journal in 2005 when he came to Daytona Beach, Hes not one of us. 3. I have a big issue with the authors decision to say but it is also true that men, in particular Black men, can be rapists. to say in particular, is to say especially. Saying this suggests you think black men are more likely to be rapists than any other race. 4. Right now, theres a war going on in Charlottesville, VA about an article in Rolling Stone about a white girl who was raped by white men at the Phi Kappa Psi house at the University of Virginia. This story is selling just a large nationally as the Bill Cosby story, if not bigger. So to suggest Race is whats selling in the story, to me, is a stretch. Its RAPE and ENDING IT thats selling. Finally finding those who are ready to speak out, and attempting to protect them from those who suggest they just want the money, and so forth. What are you thoughts, folks? cc: Jade Andwele H Marie Williams Jimi Larkins Emma Lord Sigh Hardison Solomé Rose giftedandratchet/2014/12/10/caught-between-race-rape-culture-why-i-cannot-turn-on-bill-cosby/
