An understatement to say that I’m blown away by this new approach to education called The Field Academy, really the gold-standard in alternative education. Some refer to it as a domestic study abroad program, it’s a transformational exploration of the myriad of cultures, opportunities and challenges facing people in our country. What’s perhaps the most remarkable, and a testament to the three brilliant women behind this effort, is that students return with a hunger for learning, like they’ve woken up and realized that they’re in charge and now that they’ve tasted what it’s like to explore, learn, peel the onion, debate, solve, question...there’s no turning back. It’s how I’d want my (nonexistent) kids to approach the world, turn the learning-faucet on high and hot, and become outstanding citizens in the process.
