An unusual Regency period mahogany six drawer chest of drawers - TopicsExpress

An unusual Regency period mahogany six drawer chest of drawers with satinwood and ebony inlay on bun feet The chest that comprises of three short drawers over three long retaining its original turned handles and has a superb satinwood band with detailed ebony inlay in the classical taste. Excepting the unusual drawer configuration, this chest is not a rare sight, however this example is highly unusual for the amount of decorative attention it has received. Gillows of Lancaster were manufacturing these chests in the 1820’s and a similar example can be seen in their estimate sketchbooks for the year 1821. Normally associated with the Victorian period, these chests have a much earlier pedigree in some cases and this chest exudes the flamboyance of the Regency period. jasonclarkeantiques.co.uk
