An unusual job for the Roads Policing Unit - At about 11am this morning, officers were called to a report of a horse and rider being attacked by a Black Staffie type dog in the Wallington Road / Marsh House Avenue area of Billingham. In the incident the horse was bitten and the rider thrown off. The horse bolted and ran for a few hundred metres riderless through the streets of Billingham. There was an obvious concern that this could cause a road accident. A large number of passers-by witnessed the incident and the horse rider has asked that her sincere thanks be passed on to everyone who stopped to assist her and especially the people who gave her a lift to find her horse and those who helped to bring it back under control. Horse and rider have been reunited and thankfully although both sustained dog bites, neither have serious injuries. A male has been charged in relation to an offence of having a dog dangerously out of control and the dog has been seized and signed over to police.
