An upcoming October program...... Steve Glischinski, author of “Minnesota Railroads: A Photographic History, 1940-2012”, will give presentations on his book at the Ivanhoe and Lake Benton Public Libraries, and the Tyler Senior Citizen Center on Monday October 20th. “Minnesota Railroads: A Photographic History, 1940-2012”, gives the reader an entertaining and informative look at Minnesota s railroads, detailing their pre-World War II transformation from the era of steam locomotives and luxury passenger lines to their current reemergence as one of the few profitable transportation industries in our day. Glischinski in his book quotes Great Northerns President as saying, “The Great Northern Railway in 1941 met every requirement made of it as the nation hurriedly prepared for war by transporting the tanks and airplanes, material and troops that were critical to Americas military success.” “Minnesota Railroads” is filled with remarkable, never before seen photographs of trains, depots, and the men who helped transformed the industry into todays modern railroad. Glischinski began taking photographs of railroads in 1970, at the age of thirteen. Since then, his photographs of railroads in action have been published in many books and magazines. He is a correspondent for “Trains Magazine” and organizes railroad photograph charter trips, and the Railfan Weekend at the Lake Superior Railroad Museum in Duluth, MN. Glischinski is the author of several books on railroading and lives in Shoreview. During his presentation Glischinski will also share with the audience his experience of photographing and publishing his book. Glischinski will give his presentation at 10:30 am in the Ivanhoe Community Center, 3:00 pm at the Lake Benton Public Library and 7:00 pm at the Tyler Senior Citizen Center. Steves programs are sponsored by the Ivanhoe Public Library, Lake Benton Public Library and the Tyler Public Library and are funded in whole or part with grant money from Minnesotas Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund.
