An update about the squaddie attack A 28 year old soldier, serving with the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers, has been left with serious injuries after being attacked while on his first day of leave and in Barnsley. The soldier, who has not been named, but who is a Corporal and who has served two tours in Afghanistan and one in Iraq, was set upon by a gang of unknown assailants. Witnesses saw him rendered unconscious and still being punched and kicked by his attackers. He was left with concussion, shoulder and pelvic injuries, black eyes, and numerous cuts and bruises. Despite numerous witnesses, it seems that the police and media have chosen not to release any descriptions of the attackers whatsoever. Perhaps they would care to do so and prove all the speculation wrong, or is it a case of the usual suspects and nothing further will be said? Meanwhile, welcome to Britain – where our streets are not safe for our own soldiers to walk on.
