An update from Bryan Lowe, who just landed in New York... For the little boy sitting next to me on the flight to NY, this is quite the new adventure. Hes never been to NY in all his ten years, and even more significantly, this is his first flight... Ever! (So far his first flight has been spent playing video games!). Really, it is just your typical flight, except for one fact, all the people sitting around me are some of the most talented musicians in the NW! There is a bass player whos been with SSO so long, she didnt want to tell me when shed first joined. That was so long ago. Some of us dont want to admit to it! Theres the flute player, grateful to be able to pack small, as opposed to the four harpists on the trip, some of whom have their expensive and fragile instruments packed in the hold beneath us. In some ways its just a longer commute to yet another concert, one of so many in their long careers, but this one IS different. Carnegie Hall , one of the most important concert halls in the world, is all but sold out. In the audience they expect more than 700 Seattle area fans whove made the trip, and theyll all be waving pink banners. The work by John Luther Adams is a NY premiere, and any performance of Varese is unusual in its rarity! This concert is going to be electric. Join Dave Beck and me for one of the most important concerts in Seattle Symphony history. Our pre-concert countdown starts Tuesday at 5 pm, with the concert starting at 8. Join us!
