An update on BNT Blue Moon. Lunar is a great friend now and I backed her for the first time yesterday. Lying down means zero chance of getting bucked off . I have had some horses come in with serious bucking issues as a result of fear, taught them to lie down and then climb all over them and they cant buck me off ,they learn trust and submission, they build their confidence and once the fear is gone so is the buck. Please be aware that there is a big difference between laying a horse down or teaching him to lie down over a period of time. Many people have tried laying a horse down resulting in a fight and a wreck or not succeeding and just succeed at scaring the horse and making it worse. Trying to force a horse down makes them feel under attack. Teaching a horse to lie down is done in a series of stages with many releases of pressure along the way. Always get help from someone who is experienced and dont get hurt. Many horses have been injured because people have tried to force something on them , they could potentially flip over backwards and break something , or take off bucking and running and go through a fence. It takes time and patience and a confident horse . He should feel safe with you and that really is the key . A horse WILL not lie down if it doesnt feel safe.
