* An update on Grass sickness* The symptoms of grass sickness are fairly widely known however our most recent case presented in a slightly unusual way. The main symptom was not passing dung for 3 days with no evidence of colic, skin tremors, swallowing difficulty or patchy sweating. All attempts were made to rehydrate an impaction in his colon with many tens of litres of fluids being given intravenously. He was comfortable, a little dull and eventually went into major colic . He was euthanased because of the extreme unresponsive impaction which was probably caused by grass sickness. The final link in this story is that a post mortem is now being carried out to determine if grass sickness was truly the cause of this loss. Histopathology is the only way to confirm the diagnosis with certainty. I hope we don’t see any more of these cases, but I’m afraid we will.
