An update on road conditions throughout the region... Mud Slides and flooding are also causing headaches for drivers throughout the Kootenays. Three different mud slides have been reported in the Kootenay Lake area, with two mudslides happening north of Kaslo and one happening between New Denver and Kaslo. No detours are available to get around the slides and its unknown when the three slides will be completely cleared off of roadways. The Trans Canada Highway is also closed east of Golden due to multiple washouts and debris flow sites in Alberta. Highway Three has its own share of problems. The highway is single lane alternating six kilometres east of Sparwood as a section of the road has been washed out. The RCMP is advising against travel in the area of that wash-out, as the highway could washout completely later today. And Fording River Road to the Fording River Coal Mine is also closed, due to road wash-outs. Teck Coal is looking to designate an alternate route to the mine at this time. The closure could last anywhere from one or two days.
