An update on the baby parrots that had been taken from the nest in a Cayo village. A BWCN member spotted a young boy holding a hat with 3 baby parrots in it. We moved as soon as we heard, and managed to persuade him to give us the birds. Sadly, by the time we got to them,one of the babies had either been sold, or more likely had died. They were starving, with a crop full of hard, undigested rice, and they also had several of what looked like leeches and some beef worms on them (in fairness, the parasites were probably nothing to do with the poacher). One of the birds also has a damaged leg - not broken, but definitely compromised. We are glad to say they are both now cleaned up, eating well and the leg is on the mend with more mobility and strength every day. Thank you to the amazing network of people that we have here in Belize that got these babies to safety in record time. You guys are wonderful!
