An update on the patch of bush that caused lots of fuss yesterday. Glenn Stewart met Tim Pow of CERA on site today. They went through the patch and identified the dead trees that need to come out. CERA agreed the trunks will be removed piece by piece and done in such a way to to avoid severely damaging the live trees and the seedlings. And the dead wood will be left in the bush to decay. This piece of bush is to be fenced, and Greening the Red Zone will be allowed to manage it for regeneration. That will involve constant weeding out of invasive weeds, and ensuring seedlings are taken care of so they have the best chance of making it to maturity. Once we are clear about when the fencing will be complete, we will be calling for volunteers to adopt this patch of bush and manage it, under the supervision of one of our experts. That will probably involve work days of 2-3 hours on a weekend, once every 1-2 months, depending on how many want to be involved. This patch is in Richmond and it would be great if former and current Richmond residents who want to do their bit to help green the red zone formed the bulk of that group. If this sounds like something youd like to be involved in, indicate by just saying yes or me or something similar below, then when we have everything lined up, well let you know whats happening. (There will be other patches, in other suburbs to follow.) - AC
