An upper level trof of low pressure continues to move slowly - TopicsExpress

An upper level trof of low pressure continues to move slowly through the region this morning. As a result a few light snow showers will affect areas around Havre and Stanford through mid morning. Otherwise, it will be a mostly quiet day, with afternoon highs mostly in the 30s. The next storm system arrives Wednesday afternoon, with snow continuing through Christmas Day. By Thursday afternoon, new snow accumulations will generally range from 2 to 5 inches at lower elevations, to 6 to 12 inches in the mountains. Temperatures turn colder as well on Thursday, but then there is the potential for another arctic blast of cold temperatures and more snow to move through the region on Sunday and into early next week. There is the potential that this cold air mass that moves in on Sunday will be just as cold as the cold air that hit the region in late November, when Great Falls fell to 22 below and Cut Bank was 32 below.
