An upper level trough and cold front will cross from the west today through Monday with strong southwest winds and precipitation. The strongest winds should reach 45 mph from Clines Corners to Clayton from mid day through this afternoon. Showers and thunderstorms will gradually spread eastward from western and central areas today across eastern areas tonight. The first appreciable snow accumulation of the season is expected in the northern mountains. The snow level there should drop from over 10,000 feet today to near 6500 feet Monday morning as the accumulations come to an end. Some peaks may accumulate around 4 inches of fresh powder. In the wake of the upper trough, a second cold front will surge southward through the forecast area Monday night. The first freeze of the season will be possible in some locations mainly Tuesday morning, but also Wednesday morning.
