An wonderful update from our friends at the Born To Be Wild Nature Center on Phoenix, the Red Tail Hawk that came in last year from the Johnston Landfill. Hed been burned by a methane flare and nearly all of his feathers were destroyed. He was initially brought to us and then transferred to BTBW where he has spent the last several months in care while we wait for all of his feathers to molt out naturally. On a wonderfully positive note, managers at the Johnston Landfill and with the private company that operates the methane burners were extremely responsive to the the plight of these birds and the risks of the methane flares. They have gone to great lengths to enact measures that will help prevent this from happening again. We salute them and thank them for their help in protecting and saving RIs wildlife!
