Analysis & Review of The East The East is a provocative film - TopicsExpress

Analysis & Review of The East The East is a provocative film with an abundance of thrilling moments. Directed by Cal Batmanglij, this film is beautifully cast, with Brit Marling, also the co-writer, playing Sarah Moss, an FBI trained private detective who is recruited for her expertise for a special job: locating and neutralizing an Eco-terrorist group known as the East. Through a series of lucky events, Sarah eventually comes into contact with a member of the elusive group and after gaining his trust she is successful in infiltrating the group, presenting herself as a fugitive from the very same society which the East finds so very disturbing. The East seeks to damage the greedy self centered corporations, which, driven by greed, have caused many a lives to be broken, and even though aware that their practices and products may be less than what they promise they continue to cover up their less than honorable activities. Soon enough Sarah finds herself in tune and sympathetic with the East thus becoming more and more distant from the life she once knew and now feeling trapped between two worlds. The film is captivating and intriguing enough while successfully illustrating some of the issues plaguing our world. Can greed ever be stopped? Should Health and the environment suffer in favor of economic growth or can a balancing compromise be ever achieved? This movie was well played and well written – and for an intellectual environmentalist like me I found it to be a true delight! See it. I give it 4 stars. ^nm
