Anambra Governor Obiano Seeks Accelerated Pace Of Work In State BY CHANNELS TELEVISION . DEC 22, 2014 AnambraThe Anambra State governor, Willie Obiano, has directed contractors handling the Amansea-Ebenebe-Awbaofemili road and bridge projects in Awka North Local Government Area to accelerate pace of work to ensure speedy and timely completion of the projects. The governor gave the directive while inspecting the ongoing construction of the 39 kilometer stretch with two bridges which will gulp eight billion Naira. Governor Obiano said the road and the bridge would be asphalted before Christmas with hand rails installed on the bridge to protect road users. Mr Obiano also flagged off the crossing of beams on the Nnam bridge, linking Ugbenu and Ugbene communities also in the same Local Government Area and inspected the flyover bridge at Arroma Junction in Awka, the state’s capital. He said the project would give Awka the befitting capital status it is when completed. He said that the developmental strides would bring about easy access within Awka territory in this yuletide season while assuring the people of easy access into the food basket communities of the state. The governor proceeded to Awbaofemili, where men, women and youths of the community had already gathered to receive him as expectations were also high on what good news he had come with. Inspecting the road and bridge projects, the governor said there were plans to award the extension of the project to link the local government with the neighboring Ayamelum Local Government. Explaining the strategic importance of the infrastructure, the governor said it led to the food producing communities of the state where some industries would be sited in the future. At Obizi Bridge at Isiagu, Governor Obiano directed the contractor to stone pitch the entire shoulder of the road to discharge water down the stream in order to protect the bridge from erosion. He expressed satisfaction with the quality of work done, observing that the road would give easy access to the Awka South Agricultural Area as well as to the Ultra Modern Housing Estate sited also in the area. The Governor also inspected the Nkisa bridge project along Umunya-Umudioka road and the Agulu lake Resort in Agulu, Anaocha Local Government Area. He promised the people of the community that all projects inherited from his predecessor would be completed and at record time. The State Commissioner for Works, Mr Calistus Ilozumba, told reporters that the 39 kilometer road with two bridges would cost the state eight billion Naira with the bridges gulping 700 million Naira each with stellar beams procured from Egypt.
