Anambra gov’s wife donates foodstuffs to inmates BY OUR REPORTER ON DECEMBER 30, 2014 NATIONAL Wife of Anambra State governor, Mrs Ebelechukwu Obiano, has urged prison inmates in the state to change their ways and turn a new leaf. Mrs Obiano, who visited Onitsha, Aguata, Amawbia prisons, as well as the Daughters of Charity Orphanage Home at Fegge in Onitsha on Sunday, said: “I came to celebrate with you because as the wife of the governor, I am privileged to be the mother of all in the state; I see you as an important set of the big family. “The fact that you are here does not mean that you cannot come out reformed and better than others and be able to contribute to the service and progress of our state.” She told the inmates to see themselves as those undergoing reformation and could be rehabilitated into the society. “In fact, I bet one of you may even turnout to be governor of Anambra State one day, but for that to happen, you have to turn a new leaf and give your life to Christ. “I can assure you that I always remember you in my prayers and I want you to also pray to God to enable you change and avoid acts that may bring you back into prisons,’’ Obiano said. She expressed concern over the large number of inmates awaiting trial, and gave the assurance that her observations would be brought to the attention of the governor. Assistant Comptroller of Prison in charge Amawbia, Mr. Chris Akabueze, told Obiano that most of the inmates could not contain their joy when they heard that she would be visiting them. Earlier at Onitsha, the Assistant Controller of Prisons, Mr. Felix Ezengwo, expressed gratitude to Obiano for the love shown to the inmates.
