Ananda Taranga translates as “Waves of Bliss”. This group is comprised of Melanie Leenhouts on vocals and harmonium, Sadhvi Velasquez on the mridanga drum, and Nate Oxenfeld on sitar, vocals, and guitar. Melanie is a singer and kirtan wallah, yoga teacher, harmonium instructor, and more. She found kirtan during a personal journey at Kripalu Center for Yoga & Health where she studied yoga, meditation, and Sanskrit. As a natural leader, it wasn’t long before she was teaching on the yoga team and leading kirtan regularly. She moved to Asheville in 2005, hearing the yoga community was steeped in mantra traditions and practices. She leads kirtans in Asheville and teaches harmonium lessons, inspiring and challenging the next generation of kirtan wallahs. FRIDAY NIGHT BHAKTI Come to sing or come to listen...By donation.
