Law enforcement, as well as courts & juries, are services every bit as much as waste management, masonry, or any other service that you can think of. You are conditioned to believe that compulsory statehood is the only means to obtain these services, but this is because youve never seen it any other way. People are providing these services currently, no? Why then, would people not continue to provide these services without a compulsory government? You must detach yourself from the superstitions you hold about the state, especially where services are concerned. How are these people chosen? Are the anarchists now voting? If they want to, they certainly may participate in a direct/representative democracy. The difference is that any laws outside of the purported Non-Aggression Principle, must be specifically and contractually agreed upon by the constituency thereof. In cases of criminal litigation outside of a voluntary state, independent contractors would handle both law enforcement as well as the litigation process. Because we live in the golden age of information, it would be in the best interests of these contractors to handle each case as fairly and as objectively as humanly possible. The moment theyre caught in a scandal, their clientele will shift their business to any number of more reputable/trustworthy institutions. The Non-Aggression Principle is not Pacifism. You reserve the right to defend yourself in any way you see fit, including retaliation. So long as you do not initiate force/violence against any person/entity that did not initiate violence/force upon you first. And of course bearing in mind that if enough people suspect you of foul play, you are subject to investigation/litigation by defense contractors seeking reparations for any wrongdoing. People will form governments in the event governments do not exist I agree, the difference is that government and their subsequent institutions may ONLY have power over those who specifically endow them with the right to do so. Mutually beneficial contracts between families/individuals and the government/state that they wish to be a party to will take the place of the social contract which is commonly touted as consent by the commons.
