Anatu Ben-Lawal, indeed individuals are the problem but how did they create the problem confronting them? It is the promise of christianity for easy solution to all problem. There is popular hymn which admonishes christians to "take EVERYTHING to God in prayer" ostensibly for solution. In the Ghanaian contest where laziness and lack of creativity have led to the over reliance on religion for solution to problems, people are stuck in pre 13th century Europe. The Calvinist used the same biblical principles to create wealth and develop especially in North-Eastern United States. They used Christianity to create wealth. But in Ghana Christianity teaches people to pray 24/7 for solution to economic, health, governance, roads and even electricity problems. That is religion (christianity) hindering progress. It is very sad that the most popular and important people in Ghana today are religious leaders but not scientist or business people or academics. The media in Ghana at present derive their advertising revenue from religious activities than from the business community or from products of creativity. A society which over relies on religion for solution will not make any progress. It is as simple as that.
