And Ezra Pound and T.S. Elliott Fighting in the captains - TopicsExpress

And Ezra Pound and T.S. Elliott Fighting in the captains tower Bob Dylan was brilliant with these two lines. Elliott the unrestrained passionate writer and Pound the fierce unforgiving editor. Especially in the context of the captains tower, when we consider: I am the master of my fate; I am the captain of my soul. Often the writer and editor are parts of the same person and there must be equanimity in that relationship. One can not plunge into the ocean of creativity without being unrestrained and free of bias or manipulation. Like revelation script, it is the pure point of creation at the event horizon of our soul. But then the lower rungs of Jacobs Ladder have to be considered. How do you take that raw power and embed it in the pure laws of meaning and pattern. I have often thought that what the editor takes away is as important as what the writer creates. The real thrust of my post is: if one lives a poetic life, having as much creativity and spontaneity as possible, that has to come first, and then learning from experience that spark becomes edited into a sustaining light. If we edit first, we are manipulating our experience and thus learning nothing. So forgive those who live a poetic authentic life; feedback will soon help them edit their experience into some kind of service to humanity. I should edit this post but the bedposts call and soon I shall poetically lay me down with my head upon a metaphor and my body in the nurturing warmth of parenthesis.
