When I was in high school I was invited by one of the teachers to attend a special camp during the summer that focused on leadership development. I didn’t really know what leadership was then, and I’m still learning about it today. One thing I do know is that true leadership is not focused on what people can do for me, but rather on what I can do for them. Jesus gives us a clear picture of the role of leaders…serve. A leader is called to serve…all. I’ve watched through the years as people were elected into positions of church leadership and instead of serving, they viewed it as a badge of authority to control people. I’ve seen this in most arenas of life. True leadership is understanding that God has given us the great privilege of following Jesus’ example of serving all.
