And I just learned another thing along the crapification spectrum: 802.11g (a wireless protocol I use in my house) advertises a throughput 54 Mbps. Turns out (of course) this is rated under absolutely ideal conditions, including a range to the wireless access point that you could easily bridge with a short cable. In fact, it looks like Im observing the fastest throughput expectable from those wireless connections if I see 12 - 14 Mbps in a real world speed test. Another vote for doing real speed tests in a hardwired fashion.
