And I saw the Sacred Hoop of my people was one of the many hoops that made One Circle, wide as daylight and as starlight, and in the center grew one mighty flowering tree to shelter all the children of one Mother and one Father. And I saw that it was holy. -Black Elk/Hehaka Sapa, Lakota Wicasa Wakan (Holy Man) Photo: Arbol El Tule / El Tule Tree, Oaxaca, Mexico According to legend, Ce Acatl Topiltzin Quetzalcoatl sat to teach under this tree for 40 years, after he was dethroned and chased from his capital city of Tula by the twelve lords of Texcoco.
