And Jesus said to him, “Today salvation has come to this - TopicsExpress

And Jesus said to him, “Today salvation has come to this house...”--Luke 19:9 Salvation came. Salvation wasn’t earned and salvation wasn’t a result of living right. Salvation came to Zacchaeus’ house; Jesus came to Zacchaeus’ house. Christ left the crowd to go off with Zacchaeus. When He did this, the crowd got upset. They shouted out accusations against Zacchaeus, calling him a sinner. They were even mad at Jesus because He went off to dine with a “sinner”. Zacchaeus heard their accusations and tried to justify himself to Jesus. He stood up and spoke of his charitable contributions; He told Christ how he gives half of what he earns to the poor. He even made mention that “if” he takes collections from someone falsely, he’ll restore it fourfold (Luke 19:8). He was declaring to Christ all of his good works; he was offering a defense to the accusations of the crowd. Jesus, upon hearing these things (both the accusations and Zacchaeus’ defense) simply declared, “Today salvation has come to this house.” Salvation came to Zacchaeus’ because he was a descendant of Abraham, and an heir according to the promise. Friends, salvation doesn’t depend on you in any way. It’s not linked to your good works, charitable contributions, or good intentions. Salvation is a gift that has come because of a promise made by God. Salvation is to be received; it can’t be earned. Jesus came; He is grace and truth. He came to restore life and cause you to inherit the blessing of Abraham as a son of God (Galatians 4:7). Set aside all of the good that you think you’ve done or that you intend to do. Rest from your attempts to be perfect and know that Christ, through His finished work, has made you perfect. Know this: today Salvation has come to your house. Have a blessed, loved, and highly favored day!
