And also as it turns out, research is more and more often pointing to the relationship of depression and overweight and obesity – each “reciprocally” empowering and reinforcing the other. In other words, people who are depressed are more likely to be overweight and people who are overweight are likely to become depressed. This is known as a bi-directional relationship. For me this association brings to the forefront the connection between countries who focus MOST on unrealistic ideal body-images – and rates of depression, anxiety, eating disorders and obesity!
