And also from YouTube here is an instrumental recording of Moonlight and Shadows performed by Peter Kreuder and his musicians and recorded in Berlin on October 27, 1937. The song was composed by Friedrich Hollander and Leo Robin, both of whom are credited on the label. Both were Jewish, one, Robin, American, while Hollander was German and had composed many famous songs and scores there prior to the Nazi seizure of power in 1933. However, the regime did not then control everything and the record industry was at that time still largely out of their grasp. This lovely recording by Peter Kreuder, himself an outstanding composer of many of the best songs in German musicals in those years, can thus be said to symbolize a form of cultural resistance to the regime, much as the distribution of Dorothys records in Japan at the same time challenged the militarists there. 30s Music and Movies forever! https://youtube/watch?v=zhsNemDOSXw
