And as we grew up grandfather afforded us the luxury of attending the much loved ceremonies of brewing busaa for his in laws! It is called keryekchi kamama. We didnt drink but we took our plastic bowls to be given misikyande the residue that is as a result of sieving the frothy drink. They came in large numbers and they sang and danced. They hugged us and spat on our necks as a sign of blessing and goodwill! One or two of them didnt wear clothes! Just a shuka around their waist and some kind of trench coat. The kind you see with Nairobi women! So you now know. But the climax was everything! Dancing to the famous tune of Kongoi wee Kamama! Kikoyam sait keruten!!(thanks to you, the time is ripe for us to leave) They left in peace but not without pictures being taken by a famous cameraman who wore a bell bottomed trouser. He counted three and the shutter went loud! Two cows would be part of the cast! Mukche and Lelit were grandfathers favorite cows. They would not be part of the cows going to the grazing fields when such important visitors would be coming. And speaking of Lelit, the tall heavily built cow! She was so cool and down to earth. I never saw her kick the milking jug like Chemarmar. We loved her and we used her to learn how to milk! She was always patient. But we lost her to constipation. When it rained and the grass blossomed. She possibly over did it. She foamed at the mouth as we drove home. She died as we watched! Nobody complained. We feasted on her carcass. I stood there in my torn shorts! Bow and arrow in hand and barefooted. Kosiko slit her neck. She was gone. I risk getting emotional! Twenty years later. And Mukche too! She led the rest every time we were going home. She had some white color and beautiful udder. She was tiny but showed direction. We lost her to a bad drought. She couldnt stand on her. When she was slaughtered the bulls fought for the spilt blood. She was lovely. (To be cntd.....) Gnyt.
