And elsewhere in the world of racial justice, this is the best piece Ive seen yet about Obamas executive action on immigration. Id given up on Obama so much that it was funny re-engaging with and listening to him on immigration politics: delighted on the DACA expansion and deferred action for parents; annoyed by his militarization of the border, faith in rule of law (!), and doubling down on immigrant-as-criminal trope; curious about how he flitted with the word illegal but not as a descriptive for immigrants--and I strangely enough found myself liking the scripture quote. This piece by Prerna Lal gets right in the details. One good point: one of the big victories was ending Secure Communities, but as she points out, the focus on post-conviction continues the entanglement between immigration and law enforcement in another form... prernalal/2014/11/executive-action-on-immigration-good-bad-and-ugly/
