And, for those who stick on BC Raw, heres the blog text.... Both final signs of recuperation have kicked in now. The penultimate – being able to shower in cold water again, the only way for healthy people to do it in the tropics – arrived last Friday and the proof positive of wellness came yesterday: I spent the whole afternoon in the yard, finally doing battle with, and vanquishing, the vines that had turned one half of our eastern chain link fence into a wall of green. My wife suggested the vines might have been cow-itch but my skin belies it: I did the job, and several others, in a short-sleeved shirt. Which happened to be an old Rolling Stones T-shirt, which must be what put them in mind but, while folding clothes last evening – a man may work from sun to sun but BC’s work is never done, the down side of male lesbianism – I popped in Shine a Light, Martin Scorsese’s concert film of the Stones at the Beacon theatre, shot about five, six years ago, received as a present our first Christmas in Barbados, in 2008. At one point – I want to believe it’s during, “She Was Hot” – Jagger, the best rock ‘n’ roll band front man, ever, with apologies to no one apart from James Brown, perhaps – turns his back to the crowd and puts down one of his trademark bumcee-wiggles for their admiration. He gets so pleased with himself, he runs his right hand down his cheek and gives himself an, “Ow!” And, listen: he carries it off: 65 years old at the time, face wrinkled like a salt prune in the midday sun, that firetrucker still has the moves and makes the gig a great one; even if they did take out the line about black girls from “Some Girls” that might have caused a diplomatic incident, what with President Clinton as emcee and in the crowd….
