“And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, - TopicsExpress

“And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers; For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ: Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ” (Ephesians 4:11-13). While there are many thoughts within this passage of Scripture, I want us to settle in on a few thoughts for our study today. One thought is the answer to the question: what is all preaching and studying the Bible for? In other words, why do we do it? Why study your Bible and why go listen to preachers? We see the answer to these questions as plain as the nose on your face. The Bible says, “For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ.” That means we study Bible and listen to preaching and teaching, so we can live more and more like a true saint, so we can know how to serve the LORD, and to build up the church which is the body of Christ. (I encourage each person reading this to go and find a local body of Christ, the local church, where you can come under the many corporate blessings that the Bible promises such as these listed here.) This passage also shows us the unit of measurement so you can know how far you have grown. The Bible says, “unto the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ.” That could be translated as being fully mature. It means, in my southern dialect, “To be all growned up.” So, listening to preaching and studying your Bible is useful until you are all grown up and mature. How do you know you are mature? That would be when you live just like Jesus lived… completely perfect and completely sinless. So, if you are like me, we need to go study our Bibles some more, and maybe listen to some good preaching before this day is over. May God bless you with maturity in Christ!
