And, in other news...a few folks have asked me what Ive been doing to lose the 8lbs that I lost in the past 4 weeks, so heres the rundown: 1) Im using protein shakes which I get through my friend Robin that are very satisfying. The are vegan protein. A typical shake for me has the protein, 8-10 ounces of Almond Milk (I know, I know...I saw that thing that was floating around), some fiber powder, a banana, some frozen berries, a nice tablespoon of Sunflower Seed Butter (the fat is what helps you stay feeling full) and ice. This is a serious shake and a fine meal replacement. I do one in the morning and then, depending on the day I might have one or two more to replace meals. 2) You eat about every 5 hours...3 meals and no snacks. If you are very active/working out, you get a 4th meal to fuel your activity. 3) Drink LOTS of water. 4) Cut out all of the following: processed sugar, most starchy carbs (bread, rice, potatoes, etc.), dairy (I have a touch of milk in my coffee, but thats it...no cheese, butter, etc.), fried foods and soy products. Youre supposed to cut out caffeine but I did not. I did cut back, though. 5) What I did eat was (and its not that difficult, but you do have to shop and have good stuff in the house): lean protein, lots of fruits and veggies and salads, and favorable fats like olive oil, avocado and salmon. When eating out it was easy to find a salad with a burger or grilled chicken, etc. No dressing, though...just olive oil. I used sunflower seed butter a lot since youre not allowed peanuts because one part of this thing is to see what you might be allergic to. And sunflower seed butter is much less expensive than almond or cashew butter. Its also really freakin tasty and satisfying... 6) I was good about exercise the first week and a half but got busy after that. I intend to create that habit in August when things are a little slower for me in an effort to get the next 8 lbs. off. BUT...that means that I lost the weight without lots of exercise. 7) The biggest thing I can tell you is that I was mentally ready for this so none of it has felt like a sacrifice. And the most exciting thing about it is that towards the end of the 3rd / beginning of the 4th week I started feeling clearer headed and having a release of energy. Both of those things are pretty darned exciting. Im sure Im forgetting something, but if anyone is interested in the protein stuff let me know in a reply and Ill private message you and my friend Robin so she can fill you in about all of it. And Im happy to answer any other questions here, of course. ( Brian, Len & Rachel )
