And it came to pass, when they were gone over, that Elijah said unto Elisha, Ask what I shall do for thee, before I be taken away from thee. And Elisha said,I pray thee,Let a double portion of thy spirit be upon me.(2 Kings 2 vs 9). That is the Focal Scripture of Streams of Joy Devotional Today. Todays Focal Scripture reveals that Elisha demanded to be given a double portion of Elijahs anointing. In the Hebrew culture, the double portion of a mans possession,as well as the right to succession was usually reserved for the first born son. So, Elisha demanded to succeed Elijah. He demanded to be treated as the first among the prophets in training. Notice carefully that before he made a demand for the double portion,Elisha already paid his dues under Elijah. He left his family and abandoned his farm to become Elijahs servant. He followed Elijah on a long journey from Gilgal to Jordan. When other sons of the Prophet discouraged him on the way,he persevered. Elisha paid a huge price before making huge demands from Elijah. Friend,glean another lesson from Elisha: Pay the price that will set the stage for the demands you wish to make from God. Pay the price of communion and devotion to God; Pay the price of righteous living; Pay the price of consistency in your walk with God; Pay the price of patience,faith,love, resilience etc. When you watch others pay the price for their next level and you do nothing,dont feel bad when God blesses them immensely and sets them ahead of you. As you seek to make demands from God,meet Gods own demands- Pay the Price! Pray with me,Lord,help me to pay the Price for my destiny in Jesus name.
