And now... another rant regarding compassionate civility, capitalism and socialism. Some contend that having the government pay for everything, such as healthcare, education, food, housing and to make sure that everyone has equality, opportunity, and to live the American dream. But thats not quite what the American dream is. The American dream is to leave your descendants in a better economic position than you started with. Not... everyone having the same economic position and no one trying to work themselves up from nothing to a state of economic dependency. Sure, if you supply someone with all of lifes necessities when they have nothing, it will be a compassionate, but... what happens when you turn off the supply? When you simply cannot afford to support someone else? What do they do? Sure they might have a great education and non tangible assets, but in the end, if they couldnt support their own housing, or food or existence to begin with, what makes people think they can without the support network. Capitalism offers the ability to live by your own means. Make money, spend money, the people who you spend money on, make money, and spend it again. This is how it works, the money you pay McDonalds for a cheeseburger, goes in part to a bakery, a meat plant, and a cheese plant, which in tern go to the respective farmers. The Bakeries as a whole compete for that contract from McDonalds to make their bread, only the best items at the best price will do. Thats how it always is. “There is one rule for the industrialist and that is: Make the best quality of goods possible at the lowest cost possible, paying the highest wages possible.” ~ Henry Ford Whats that you say? Highest possible wage? Sure, if youre looking to have a business and expand it, you need workers, workers like high wages, if you dont pay them high wages for their time, they will go to someone who will. But there are a few problems with capitalism, lets not deny it. Theres the Social Evolution Through Capitalism Which makes the concept more move with a purpose or starve to death, the world doesnt owes you a cookie. concept when only the best and brightest and most able to sustain the world around them are able to grow and prosper and the rest are just cast away to feed off the crumbs society gives them. But in the long run it is still theoretically possible to break free from the bottom and to make yourself better off for your descendants so they can have a better start than you had. The problem is that eventually youll have an aristocracy that has most of the money and the rest of society fending for the crumbs. Families so powerful that they can willfully break the law, and pay penalty fines that amount to nothing more than a days wages lost. And for those who cannot get ahead, they will no be productive, because there will be no incentive to be productive. And the ones who are productive will grind against the wheels until they cannot grind anymore, and then they will be, as my good friend Jasper McGandy puts it. Too old to work and too young to die. Also with no support network for the old, unskilled, or unemployable. Meaning no one pays for shelter, education, food and other necessities, means a sharp rise in property crime, theft, burglary, muggings, that sort of thing. And it will be seen as acceptable simply because theyre stealing from those who can afford loss because they make a salary. So we need socialism to keep the crime down, and capitalism to keep the economy going. It appears you cannot have one without the other. Or else, your civilization, will lose its ability to be compassionate. And whats the point of having a civilization if you cannot be civil?
