And now for something completely different: Watch the trend of the GFS model as the vortex over the Arctic splits in two around 192 hours and creates a cross-polar flow, known to some people in the late 70s/early 80s as the Siberian Express. Both the 06Z and 12Z runs are in agreement. The cross-polar flow brings the absolute coldest of air clear from Siberia on the other side of the world, across the North Pole (where it has little chance to warm because of the little sunlight), and right smack dab down into the USA. Winter is only beginning folks, but with the low Solar output and EPO going almost 5 STD below normal, things could get very interesting right around the new year.
