And now my promised NEWS!! Early in 2015 Avon will be releasing the first book in my brand new series SEVEN BRIDES FOR SEVEN COWBOYS. I’m so excited! Don’t let the series title fool you—while there are plenty of cowboys, I also have a couple of heroes with some other hot professions who wander onto the ranch at the heart of the stories. The real stars of the books are seven sisters who grew up on Paradise Ranch but all left home for various reasons. When they’re all called back after their father dies and leaves the land to them, each one has to find her reason to stay. I can’t reveal the first title yet because it’s not finalized—but here’s a hint: it will likely feature a bride and some denim and ??? Would you like to read the first-ever excerpt anywhere? It’s my present to you all below. And for GIVEAWAY #3, a choice of one of my e-books, plus a set of two handmade “wine-cozy” book coasters, just comment on Question number three: What is your very favorite Christmas romance theme to read about (or write about!)? Do you like crackling fires and Christmas lovemaking? Do you like falling in love under mistletoe? Romance that brings a family together? Me, I’m a sucker for the moment the hero or heroine receives the perfect gift that everyone but he or she knows is coming. I love the romance and dorkiness of a good old Christmas surprise! And here as promised is my Christmas surprise excerpt from Seven Brides for Seven Cowboys: Harper’s story: “Do you ever wonder if those two are really right for each other?” Kelly’s question pushed through Harper’s musing. “Two? What two?” Harper frowned. Obviously she’d missed something. “Amelia and Cole. Isn’t it weird that they’ve been together forever but never do anything about it?” Cole Wainwright. At the linking of his name to Amelia’s, a startling shot of jealousy zipped through Harper’s stomach, even as it flipped in anticipation of seeing him again. Both sensations shocked her, and she forced herself not to stop in her tracks and analyze the reactions. Instead, she brushed them off. Cole was her best childhood friend. Any stronger feelings only testified to the raw and unstable state of her emotions. “He got in very late last night from North Dakota, I guess,” she said at last. “I saw him for the first time at the funeral this morning, and only for five minutes. ” Cole had definitely changed over the past near-decade. Any signs of the soft-featured boy and young man he’d been had disappeared into angles and planes on a stunning male face. But his friendship with her was intact. And so, according to Kelly, was his love for Amelia. She and Kelly headed across the side lawn to the back of the house, but before they’d reached the two-tiered back deck, Harper heard the back screen door slap shut. She looked up and a power surge, as if she’d run into an electric fence, jolted her to a halt. Cole stood outside the door, his brown-black hair spiked and askew as if he’d just awoken, his lips compressed in thought, his eyes roaming the landscape and sparking like blue diamonds. “Hey, Cole,” Kelly called, as Harper’s heartbeat shifted and sped up, and the thoroughly confusing reaction to him returned. Cole’s mouth relaxed into a broad smile, and he strode across the deck, navigated the short flight of four steps, and met them on the wet lawn. His tie knot hung three inches down the front of his shirt, and the two buttons above it spread open at his tanned, corded throat. “Perfect. Two thirds of the Crocketts I’ve been sent to find,” he said. “Amelia is looking for help, I’ll bet,” Kelly replied, and accepted his hug of greeting. “No, surprisingly. It’s your grandma. Miss Sadie has called a family meeting.” Harper met Cole’s eyes as he released Kel and turned to her. They didn’t touch, but her cheeks warmed just from the caress of his gaze. “I still have to find Joely,” he said. “Best guess is she’s in the barn.” He grasped Harper’s hand and pulled her in a circle. “Come with me. We’ve had no chance to catch up. Kel, tell your grandmother I’ll have them back in ten.” “No problem,” Kelly replied, and turned for the house with a teasing flip of her hand. “You kids have fun.” Seconds later, her hand buried in Cole’s, Harper broke into a trot to keep up with his long, purposeful strides, her heart pounding in surprise, her breath short, but not from the running. And for your amusement: my inspiration pictures for Cole and Harper. Recognize her? Shes one of my favorites :-)
