And of that 40%, a little over half chose our current members of Congress. Half of 40% is 20%. This means that the opinions of 20% of the electorate are now in control of what direction our country is going. If you didnt vote and you disagree with the 20%, you effectively gave them your vote. In addition, less than 1% of the population provided the lions share of the funding for those running for election. Why do we continue to say that the US is a democracy when so few vote and our elected officials are working primarily for the interests of those who paid the money to get them elected? Democracy no longer exists in a nation where 4 out of 5 citizens do not vote.
