And on Neptune Day, Shellbacks were born! The MV Explorer - TopicsExpress

And on Neptune Day, Shellbacks were born! The MV Explorer crossed the equator into the South Atlantic Ocean on the 72nd day of the Fall 2014 voyage. Pollywogs (voyagers who were crossing the 0° latitude parallel by sea for the first time) were invited to participate in a series of voluntary ceremonies as part of the storied tradition of Neptune Day. The day started early with the shipboard community being awoken by members of King Neptunes Court and summoned to the deck where the King and Queen awaited. Students, faculty, staff, lifelong learners, family, and even ships crew then took part in a variety of events that included head-shaving, a shower of fish guts, jumping into the swimming pool, and kissing a fish to complete their initiation as a Shellback.
