And so it begins. After some weeks of planning and world-building, I just wrote the first chapter of my new novel. Until the very moment I started writing, I wasnt sure which person or which tense I would write in. It turned out to be first person and present tense--a raw style that draws attention to itself, but which also has an immediacy and vulnerability (think Hunger Games) to it that makes it worth the awkwardness of keeping everything in the exact right now.
