And speaking of singing, the other day I posted something about the feminist video using little girls to send a message that, in my opinion, utterly failed. Then, as I as crossing country roads on the way here and there, I heard this old song on satellite radio. It got me to thinking of the intended subject matter, and prompted this missive. Love is a funny thing. It has many meanings, depths, heights, widths, and durations. But I think it never goes away. Not if we are able to look back fondly and recall what each episode taught us. Some will be more fun to remember than others, but all had and still have worth. Experiencing those pieces of our life taught us to be who we have become. They are the building blocks of the foundation of what we have come to know as true love. I know that they have all contributed to what I now understand is real love. I quote my Holly frequently, and I will do so again here (she IS one of the most quotable people I know). She says, “There are the loves we grow up with, and the Love we grow old with. One cannot be achieved without all the others.” So in this day of “the war on women” and all that, here’s a nod to all the girls I’ve loved before. They include Mom, Mother-in-law, Sisters, Nieces, first grade crush, second grade crush, etc. First high school love (the one that so destroyed you when it ended). Girls, Women, and Ladies I have and still do work with and for. All of you/them have helped me learn what a solid, trusting relationship means. And it has led me to the Love I will grow old with, Holly. So guys, listen up and close your eyes and let the images and memories flow through your consciousness. And Ladies, listen up and close your eyes and know that we are thinking of you fondly, and thanks for teaching us.
