And the #1 Top Walking Dead scene for me happens in this Season 5 Episode 5x03 Four Walls & A Roof. After the Terminus was overrun by Rick and the group, much to Carols heroics, they were on the road again, not knowing that Gareth and a group of his cannibalistic people were still out pursuing them. While seeking refuge at Father Gabriels church, Rick and a few others decided to go out and search for Daryl and Carol, while leaving behind the Pastor, Abraham, Michonne, Carl, Eugene and Baby Judith inside the church. Gareth and his group seek them out, perhaps not knowing that Rick had perhaps planned it as an ambush to get them from behind. As Gareth was closing in on the group in the church, Rick appeared in the dark and planted two headshots onto Gareths men before shooting off Gareths fingers, and had the rest of the cannibal group surrendered to his demand to put down the guns and kneel, Rick calmly walked to the front of the chapel and faced a cowered Gareth on his knees and begging for his life, imploring Rick at one point that he must have a reason not to shoot and kill them directly, which Rick sarcastically answered - We dont want to waste the bullets. Gareth further begged for their lives by promising Rick that they will walk away and will never cross paths again. Rick was never ever to negotiate at this point and reminded Gareth of his promise which he had made at the start of Season 5 when Rick and the group, captured and almost had their throat slit by Gareth and the Terminus people - that he is going to use his machete with a red handle to kill Gareth. With that, Rick, with the church stained glass windows to his back, and appearing larger than life, fulfilled his promise, raised his machete, swooped down on Gareth and butchered him in cold blood, with the rest of the group - Sasha, Michonne and Abraham taking his lead and doing the same to the rest of Gareths people while Tyreese, Maggie and Glenn watched from a distance in shock, probably at the cold brutality demonstrated by Rick. Rick ended it all by reassuring his people that it could have been us. To me, this is a top top scene although the rest of the episodes that followed were a bit flat for me. I must have watched this scene like over a hundred times now, and for a long time, the current #2 spot held by Shane & The Killing at Hershels Barn Scene had been my Number One - until now that is. It really gives Walking Dead fans a clear indication of Ricks total change in personality and approach to keeping his group and family safe by stopping at nothing to protect them and distrusting any foreign elements from joining the group unless he is very sure they will be safe. Even the slightly fishy Father Gabriel is still under the watchful eyes of Rick at this moment. Rick will stop at nothing to kill anyone who harms his group. With this, i hope everyone enjoys my Top 5 Walking Dead Scenes for the past week, in celebration of the shows 5th year in existence.
